Alcatel USB modem in Windows

The following instructions are designed to support customers when installing Alcatel modems for ADSL connectivity with Windows.

The screens which appear below may differ slightly depending on which OS you are running.

Installing the Alcatel Speedtouch

  • Before starting the installation do NOT attach your modem to your machine. You will be asked to do this at a later stage.
  • Insert the installation CD supplied with your modem into your machine. The SpeedTouch Setup wizard should start automatically. If the wizard does not start automatically, go to your Start menu and select the 'Run' option and type in the following path D:\setup.exe, where D is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  • A welcome screen will appear as below. To start the setup process just click on ‘Next’.

  • Next you will see a Licence Agreement screen, click 'Yes' here to proceed.
  • The next screen details the destination folder into which you want to install the required components. Press ‘Next’ to continue.

  • The following screen enables you to add a shortcut to a specific Program folder of your choice. Select ‘Next’ to continue.
  • The wizard will now copy files onto your machine.
  • When the installation process is complete, you will see a message asking you to attach your modem to your computer. Press ‘Finish’ and then attach your modem.
  • After attaching your modem, your OS will detect the new modem and install all the appropriate drivers.

Connecting to the internet

  • On your desktop now you will see an icon called 'Alcatel Speedtouch Connection'.

  • Double click this to set up your ADSL connection to the internet.
  • You will see a screen similar to the one below:

  • user name and password: You will find these details in your starter letter supplied by Opal.

Note: Remember to put @online.rednet.co.uk after your ADSL login. You are now ready to connect to the Internet via your REDNET ADSL connection.
